UPSC Online OTR Registration and Exam Form

In early days UPSC used to have physical form, which need to be filled manually and aspirants needed to courier it to UPSC Bhavan. Now days, UPSC has simplified all the process. It accept application forms digitally through it’s website.

UPSC has launched One Time Registration(OTR) platform for initial application and further processes for all exam organised by UPSC.

The filling of an online application contains two parts;

  1. Creating OTR Profile
  2. Applying for active exam subsequently.

Part 1: One Time Registration (OTR)

What is OTR in UPSC Exam Process?

OTR stands for ‘One Time Registration’. Every aspirants, who want apply for all exams conducted by UPSC near future needs to register themselves on this platform first. It helps streamline the subsequent stages of the UPSC examination, saving your time and effort down the line.

  1. Class 10th Board Examination Roll No.
  2. Active and Alternate Mobile No & Email Address

Steps in OTR Process

  1. To start your OTR registration, visit the official UPSC website (www.upsc.gov.in). On UPSC website’s home page, click on either
    • ‘One Time Registration (OTR) for Examination’ Link OR
    • ‘Online Application for Various Examinations’ Link
  2. You will be redirected to UPSCs’ OTR Page.
  3. Read all essential instructions provided on the registration page. This will help you avoid any mistakes during the process.
  4. Now, look for the “New Registration” button on Login Page. Remember that login page and home page are the same. It will land on Registration page, where you need to create your profile first.
  5. Enter important details like
    • Name(Exactly as per Class 10th Marksheet)
    • Full Name, if any
    • Gender
    • Date of Birth
    • Father’s Name & Mother’s Name
    • Minority Status
    • Mobile Number (to be used as Login ID) and Alternate Mobile Number, if any
    • Email ID (to be used as Login ID) and Alternate Email ID, if any
    • Board Examnination Roll No (Class 10th)
    • Security Questions
  6. Enter the captcha code and submit the OTR form.
  7. When you press “I agree” button, a page with Registration Number will be generated.
  8. Save the files, take a screenshot of it or print it out. This Registration ID can be used later for all subsequent UPSC exams. It’s one time registration process, thus called ‘OTR” in short.

After OTR registration, you can modify your OTR profile only once in the lifetime. So please create a profile carefully.

Part 2: Filling Online Application

Documents required while filling UPSC Exam


  1. Any Identity Proof: Aadhaar Card/ PAN Card/ Voter ID/ Driving License/ Passport in PDF Format.
    • Size: Between 20-300 KB
  2. Scanned Passport Size photo in JPG Format.
    • Size: Between 20-300 KB
    • Resolution: Minimum 350 Pixel(Width) × 350 Pixel (Height) and Maximum 1000 Pixel(Width) × 1000 Pixels(Height).
    • Bit Depth: 24 bit.
  3. Scanned Signature Photo (on a white paper) in JPG Format.
    • Size: Between 20-300 KB
    • Resolution: Minimum 350 Pixel(Width) × 350 Pixel (Height) and Maximum 1000 Pixel(Width) × 1000 Pixels(Height).
    • Bit Depth: 24 bit.
  4. You must have an Active Mobile no. and Email-id for future communication.

Steps in Filling UPSC Application Form

1. UPSC OTR Login

This is most important part of registration process, which is again divided in different stages.

  1. Filling up Payment details (except for fee exempted candidates)
  2. Uploading of Photograph, Signature, Photo Identity Card Document,
  3. Selection of examination centre
  4. Agreeing to Declaration.

Candidates can pay application fee in both online and offline mode.

Online

Through Credit/Debit Card/Net banking facility of any Banks or by cash challan in SBI bank.

Those who want to pay online through SBI portal can do so directly during submission of online form.

Offline

To pay the fee in cash, candidates should take printouts of challan generated online after completion of registration. Candidates may go to the nearest SBI branch for depositing fee after 24 hours of generation of challan. “Pay by cash” mode option will be deactivated at 23.59 hours of 21-02-2022 i.e. one day before the closing date. However, applicants who have generated their Pay-in-slip before it is deactivated may pay at the counter of SBI Branch during banking hours on the closing date of application.

Please note: Candidates with less than 40% disability will not be considered for any relaxation which are applicable to PwBD candidates and are required to pay fee if not exempted under the rules.

5. Agreeing to Declaration

Candidate must press “I agree” button after he/she finds that information supplied by him/her is in order and no correction is required.

Once you submitted application after clicking on “I agree”, you’re not allowed to make any correction/modification in the application.

Can I make any changes to my ‘OTR Profile’?

Yes, but it’s allowed only once per candidates.

Can I make any changes to my ‘UPSC Application’?

No changes are allowed in the online application, once it is submitted. However, if you wish to make any changes, you can submit a fresh application before last date. You can apply new application with same OTR profile and all earlier applications submitted by you will be cancelled.

Can I fill UPSC form in Hindi?

The Online Application Form is available in English and in Hindi Language but it can be filled in English Language.only

How do you know your form is submitted or not?

On successful completion of your application, an auto-generated email message from UPSC will be sent on your registered email-id. In case email is not received by you, alternatively please ensure that submission of Part-II of the Application has been made by you.

When my UPSC Application is conisdrred incomplete?

Your application will be considered incomplete without making payment, uploading of scanned photograph, signature, Photo Identity Card Document, selection of exam centre and agree to declaration.
